The Galley Slaves

HOW TO MAKE LIFE EASIER IN THE GALLEY FOR THE COOKS

Most of us love cooking in our galleys but are so often short of space for spices and all the gadgets we probably have at home.
Michelle, Lorna and Ruth have discovered some ingredients that have certainly helped us along.

Cupboard Essentials
Schwartz have come out with recipe inspiration kits which have all the little spices you need without taking all the larger bottles with you.

They are easy to folow and have recipes card on the back they do:

  • Tray baked Piri Piri Chicken
  • Rosemary roasted chicken and potatoes
  • Creamy pan fried pork with apple and sage

A Tip from Lorna
Lorna of One Life has tried ‘Look what we found’ which are ready meals in a bag ideal for the boat. They use 100% natural ingredients and are carefully sourced from regional farmers.

They do a fabulous range, Chicken Korma, Tess Valley Meatballs, Chilli con Carne, Chicken Casserole and many, many others.

A Tip from Michelle
Fancy a curry when you can’t get to Spinnakers or you are in France craving one, well you will be able to cook your curry on board using Spicentice. One little packet of 100% herbs for your curry and a little list of ingredients on the back of the packet is all you need and then just follow the easy instructions.

I really recommend The Red Thai Curry. They do many more; Chicken Tikka Masala, Coriander Chicken, Fajitas, Methi Chicken, to name a few. Check out their range at www.spicentice.com.

Our local supplier is the new Farm Shop Barnyard which is just outside the marina – turn right, go about 150 yards along the road and it is located on the left hand side.
